The XYZ adjustment hinge – finally finished in all its details
Here it is – my self‑developed special hinge, shown in its full precision. It is still in the yoga room, but soon it will be mounted on the new front door.
The door is made of over 100‑year‑old wood, only oiled, not sealed. In winter it becomes dry and "smaller", in summer moist and "larger". To keep the door always tight and windproof, the hinge must be adjustable in all directions – in X, Y and Z.
The solution: A tongue welded to a flange. The flange is bolted horizontally across the entire door width. This allows up‑and‑down movement. At the same time, the hinge itself can be finely adjusted in the X, Y and Z directions via threaded bolts.
My invention is not really true to historic preservation rules – but from the outside and at first glance, it looks like an old hinge. And it works.
