Internal turning of the bushing – on the Wolf Jahn lathe
The 100‑year‑old Wolf Jahn lathe in action. This time the bushing is being internally turned to create a precise seat for a thrust ball bearing.
Two of these ball bearings will later carry the entire weight of the heavy solid door. The internal bore must therefore be accurate to one hundredth of a millimetre – too much play and the bearing rattles; too little and it binds.
Once again it becomes clear: old craftsmanship on a historic lathe is still perfectly suited for the highest precision today.
