The physical thoughts – construction for the special hinge

The door is made of over 100‑year‑old wood. It is only oiled, not sealed. Therefore it reacts to the climate: in winter it dries out and becomes "smaller", in summer it gets moist and "larger".

To keep the door always tight and windproof, the hinge must be adjustable in all directions – in X, Y and Z. At the same time, the entire door must be allowed to expand and contract as a single unit without changing the distance between the hinges. Otherwise cracks will form where water or air will enter.

The solution: a kind of tongue welded to a flange. This flange is bolted horizontally across the entire door width. This allows up‑and‑down movement. At the same time, the hinge itself can be finely adjusted in the X, Y and Z directions via threaded bolts.

My invention – not really true to the historic preservation rules, but from the outside and at first glance, an old hinge.
